Plot summary (from the back cover): The Beach is a legend among young travellers in Asia: white sands circling a lagoon hidden from the sea, coral gardens and freshwater falls surrounded by jungle. In this earthly paradise, it is rumoured, a select community lives in blissful innocence. For Richard, haunted by the glamour of Vietnam war movies, a trek into unknown Thai territory is irrestistible. He was looking for adventure. Now he’s found it.
Opinion: The Beach. An urban legend. A community living in peaceful harmony; This book shows how far can people go to preserve their so-called paradise. A Lord Of The Flies-esque story that is well worth reading; The film adaptation is also brilliant -and so it’s the OST. Although some details in the book have been modified for dramatic purposes it doesn’t leave out any important ones.
