I’m going to give it a go and try writing some ‘decent’ pieces of fiction. From now on, I’ll follow the teachings of a book published by Gotham Writers’ Workshop, a writing school based in New York City. Stay tuned!
Page 8 – Exercise 1
What is the best work of fiction, in your opinion? Why? Try to state the major reason why you love reading this book; Then list several ways in which you think the author achieved this effect.
Hard one, that.
My favourite work of fiction is “Dracula” by Bram Stoker.
The reason why I love reading the book is because it’s an interesting and compelling piece of fiction.
The author achieved the effect by using different narrative styles, e.g. diary entries, newspaper articles, letters between the characters, etc. The change in the narrator also allows us to know the story from the point of view of the different characters.
In addition, the characters are interesting on their own. The best, in my honest opinion, are Count Dracula and Abraham Van Helsing.
