Plot summary: The story starts with Julia Jarmond, an American journalist living in Paris, who is gathering information on the most hidden and unknown episode of contemporary history in France. The first act of the Holocaust.
Over 5,000 Jews were taken away from their homes, put in the Vel’ d’Hiv for a few days, moved to concentration camps all around France, and finally, sent to Auschwitz to be gassed.
Little does Julia know that the topic she is investigating will be so close to her personal life. In fact, she is directly linked to one of the people -Sarah, the young girl; The outcome of the enquiry will change her life and the ones of those around her… Forever.
Opinion/Comments: A gripping and compelling piece of fiction whose backdrop is a terrible act against mankind. The first of many that took place during World War II; the only reason why I decided to give it a score of 9 out of 10 was that the ending is a bit too long. It shouldn’t take so many pages to close the story.
